Serious about winning, the Chicago Cubs have become big spenders and are on the verge of giving Alfonso Soriano the richest contract in club history. Soriano, a blend of power and speed, the fourth player in major league history to reach 40 homers and 40 stolen bases in a single season, has agreed to an eight-year contract worth about $136 million, according to a major league official.
