Cubs, Prior reach $3,575,000, 1-year agreement (AP)
Right-hander Mark Prior and the Chicago Cubs agreed on a one-year deal Wednesday and avoided salary arbitration. Prior will get $3,575,000 and would earn an additional $150,000 each for making 27 and 30 starts. Once considered a Cubs’ ace of the future, Prior has won just 18 games the past three seasons while battling injuries.

Drew, Red Sox reach agreement; Rhodes to Mariners; Sele to Mets (AP)
Seven weeks after agreeing to terms, outfielder J.D. Drew and the Boston Red Sox resolved their differences on his $70 million, five-year contract and were set to announce the deal Friday. A baseball official involved in the negotiations said Thursday that language covering Drew’s surgically repaired right shoulder had been agreed to.
